Greetings!

My English name is Ashley Lamothe, marten clan, and I am from Peterborough, with northern roots.

I am excited to be a new part-time member of the Nourish Project, specifically Cultivating Water Ambassadors.

This new project stems from the Healthy Kids Community Challenge theme, 'Water does Wonders,' which supports projects that promote the benefits of water for our health.

We have teamed up with Healthy Kids Community Challenge, Curve Lake First Nation, and a number of other partners to develop Nibi Giinwiindawan, or  We Are Water, curriculum.

This is a living document for communities to showcase their own traditions and stories around water while fostering growth and knowledge within children and their families.

Combining western and traditional knowledge and methods, youth will discover and share their own stories surrounding the vital importance and sacredness of water. Youth can then turn the tables and advocate for and educate those around them.

Using the ever adaptable medicine circle, participants will not only learn new information, but will be given the opportunity to share their own knowledge and stories with others. Each module will contain activities relating to each aspect of self, using interactive methods including song, drama, and hands on experience.

Curve Lake Youth (on and off reserve) will have a unique chance to experience the material first hand through a water gathering. There will also be prizes and incentives for all who participate!!!

Dates of the gathering are pending. So, please keep checking back for new information as it becomes available! We will be posting regular updates here as the project develops.

To parents and caregivers, don't worry; I haven’t left you out. You will have a chance to come experience some hands on FUN as well!

I can’t wait to meet and work with anyone and everyone who is interested in being involved in this project. For more information, please don't hesitate to contact me by calling 705.743.3526 ext. 124  or by email at alamothe@nourishproject.ca.

Chi miigwetch!
