In 2009, Keene was ranked "prettiest town in Canada" by Harrowsmith Country Life magazine due to its distinct blend of rustic shops, skilled artisans, beautiful gardens, and rich history. All these unique features will be highlighted tomorrow, May 15th, when the Keene Farmers' Market re-opens for the 2015 season
Big yellow taxi was one of the first Canadian songs I learned. A friend of mine had a copy of Ladies of the Canyon where the song was first released. Its environmental theme appealed to me and its catchy chorus became forever etched into my memory. From that point on, any cursory glance at parking lots would bring back Joni Mitchell’s playful alliteration:
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot.

For the past 11 years, ReFrame Film Festival has served us an amazing platter of engaging, insightful, moving and tasty stories. Every year the Festival helps us gain a deeper understanding of critical issues related to human rights, the arts, environment and social justice, all framed through the lens of the best film-makers in Canada and beyond. This time, festival organizers sprinkled an extra dosage of delicious offerings: nine food films! Truly a bumper crop!

More than any other time of year, I find autumn to be a time of reflection and new beginnings, the authentic New Year. For me, it is more Janus-faced than January- a time of looking back and looking ahead, of replaying some of the languid freedoms (or this year, chilly ones!) of summer and imagining the lively productivity of colder months.
In partnership with the The Bauta Family Initiative on Canadian Seed Security, the Peterborough Community Garden Network (PCGN) and Nourish are leading two innovative seed-saving projects: a Community Seed Library and a Seed Savers Collective.
