Peterborough's 11th Annual Seed Sale & Swap
Seedy Sunday posterWith so many snow days & ice storms over the past few weeks, it is hard to imagine, but spring is indeed just around the corner. Now, is the perfect time to start planning for the upcoming growing season. This time of year is so full of possibilities. During one of these many snow and ice storms is the perfect time to sort through existing seeds you have, make up a garden plan, and start sorting through seed catalouges and making a list of all the great things you are hoping to grow this season.
The number one tip for growing a great garden is to start with great seeds. And where better to buy locally grown (and adapted) heirloom seeds than at our local Seedy Sunday? On Sunday March 13th, from 1-5pm at George St. United Church, Seedy Sunday Peterborough Peterborough will host its 11th annual event. This popular annual event, for many is the unofficial launch to spring.seed starting workshop

The event is a great place to buy high quality seeds, locally adapted seeds that will grow great in your gardens. 10 amazing seed companies will be offering a huge diversity of heirloom seeds for virtually everything you can dream of growing this season. If you are a seasoned seed saver or looking for something extra unique, our infamous Seed Exchange Area will be open for seed swapping with other seed savers. If you would like to bring seeds to swap, please label envelopes with the name of the plant, the date harvested, number of seeds, and other helpful information.

Seedy Sunday is a great place to learn about growing your own food, and getting inspired for spring. There will be three free workshops offered throughout the afternoon on Growing Great Soil, Growing for Pollinators and Low-Water Gardening, Seed Starting 101. There will also be several community groups at the event including Nourish, GreenUP Ecology Park, the Peterborough Master Gardeners and Seeds of Diversity Canada who can help offer you gardening advice and support and get you inspired for spring!

Nourish will be hosting a workshop on Seed Starting 101 where you can learn how to mix a great seed starting mix, when to start specific crops, and whether they need to be started indoors or directly in your garden, and how to get the best start to a highly productive garden!
