Join us for a gathering of gardeners to explore 'What’s in a Name' in relation to our 'Community Gardens'

What does the term 'community garden' mean to you? What do you think it means to others in our community? Does the term 'community garden' adequately capture what these gardens mean to you?

Would it be worth exploring the idea of replacing the term 'Community Garden', and if so, what could we change it to? This wording will be used to make uniform signage to be displayed in gardens across our community.

The community garden movement in Peterborough is thriving. We have experienced a lot of success, and have the highest per capita number of community gardens in the country. We have over 800 gardeners making up this movement, and new gardens sprouting up annually. We have lots to be proud of!

However, we have seen the community gardens face challenges. Some have experienced theft of harvests, confusion from the public as to what 'community garden' means, and at times difficulty getting engagement from gardeners in the overall community.
We would like to have a conversation around these topics, with those that know the community gardens best - the Coordinators and the gardeners themselves - and hope you will join us and contribute your insights.
Nourish would like to seek funding to produe a set of uniform signs that will be displayed in each of the gardens, with the name of each garden, a sentence describing what the gardens are and how they are organized, contact information for Nourish, and other information gardeners think would be important to include. We would like your input on the wording for these signs.

All are welcome. Insights from community gardeners, garden Coordinators, stakeholders and members of the wider public are valued.
Attendees will be entered to win a Garden Prize Pack!
